I would like to thank Elaina Murphy for her excellent handling of the 50 State Notary telephone calls. As most of you know, I used to answer the 50 State Notary phone line because I love talking to all my customers. However, the office now receives such a large volume of calls that it was making it impossible for me to get any work done in the development of new products, writing, etc. But Elaina Murphy (who is very knowledgeable in the notary signing agent field) stepped in to help, which I greatly appreciate. Now, Elaina is starting to receive fan mail. Here is one I want to share with you:
Dear Elaina: I wanted to send you this email to thank you for listening to me with my problem with a mortgage company yesterday. I took everything you said to heart and feel very grateful that you spent the time with me to explain things. You know something very strange?? Well, yesterday we talked and today......the company called me for a closing!! I couldn't believe it. But I stood my ground and accepted the assignment BUT I told them I could do the closing with edocs for $100. They accepted! It wound up canceling at the last minute but will reschedule on Friday. I am assuming that they will contact me again once it is ready to close.
Did you call them or something? This is just too weird that they would call. I am thankful though. After talking to you, I know better now to charge what I am worth. Not a measly $60. From now on my minimum charge will be $75 for overnight docs and $100 for closings that include edocs. I do have companies that pay me $85 for overnight docs. I am gradually raising my charges due to the gas prices; just like everyone else I am sure! Thank you again for everything. I will stay in touch. --Jessie

Dear Victoria: Thanks! I called your office today and spoke with Elaina. I will take her advice and not give up. I appreciate your encouragement and your entire 50 State Notary website is such a blessing for me. When I start to begin to have great success, I will email you and let you know about how great things are going. This will just take some time. But I will work hard and expect a miracle. By the way, a signing company from your Nationwide Notary Directory already contacted me this morning. So that is start! --Wendy
Dear Wendy: People normally do not email to let me know how well their listing is doing in the Nationwide Notary Directory; however, most notaries renew their listing so it must be working for them. I am glad to know the directory brought you business. I try to get people to understand the great benefit of the Nationwide Notary Directory. And when we switch over to the new software that will run the entire database, 50 State Notary will have the most technologically advanced notary directory available in the industry.
One reason the 50 State Notary Directory is different from other notary directories is that I actually market it to title, mortgage and signing companies. Other directories will list you in them but they do not make the effort to go out and bring business to you. It is important for me to do this because this is the key that also brings business to the website. The notaries benefit and 50 State Notary benefits.
Another important marketing tool that most people overlook is that once they are listed in the Nationwide Notary Directory, they can go to any search engine and type in their name to immediately locate their web page. This makes it easy to find YOU to do a closing. Now, when you market your notary business, you can tell people they can easily locate you by going to any search engine and typing in your name. Because the 50 State Notary website appears at the TOP of all the major search engines, YOUR web page in the Nationwide Notary Directory comes up at the top when your name is typed in as a search. If you are listed in the Nationwide Notary Directory give it a try and see what I mean.
Note to Subscribers: If you are not listed in the Nationwide Notary Directory go to http://www.50statenotary.com before the price goes up. Right now you can get a 1-year listing for $49.99 and the new price will be $179.99. That is a $130.00 savings! Or better yet, purchase a 2-Yr listing for $69.99 and save $210.00. Take advantage of these prices now because they will not be available again.
The new, upgraded Nationwide Notary Directory is going to be different from anything currently available to our industry. For those of you who purchase a listing at the old prices before the software is installed, you will gain the most benefit. It is a wise investment because if you only receive ONE signing in a period of 12 months -- the cost you paid for your listing will more than pay for itself.

Dear Victoria: I received your announcement about the upgrade to your book. How often will the book be upgraded? I haven't long purchased the last version as I am still new to the business, started May 2005. Are we to pay the full fee for each upgraded version each time it is upgraded if we want to learn the new material added? Wouldn't it be best to maybe have a smaller version of the book covering just that information so that we could purchase that one to go along with the one we already have? The new version updated with the new info could be for people that have never purchased your book. --Carol
Dear Carol: I apologize for the confusion some people have had over the major revisions to the Notary book. As you know, most authors do not take the time to upgrade their materials and when you purchase a book at a local bookstore, most of the information you are reading is over TWO YEARS OLD. However, I make it a point to stay on top of things and I am always upgrading my materials. Normally the changes are minute and not worth mentioning. But with Version 4 of the Notary book, the main change was the addition of the CD-Rom of the August 4 teleconference with Victoria Rivera and Elaina Murphy.
Therefore, since you who recently purchased the Notary Book, if you will simply wait about 7-10 days, the CD-Rom of the teleconference will be available online. This way, you can listen to the SAME CD that is included in the back of the new, upgraded Notary book.
Secondly, although there were about 35 pages of new information added to the Notary book. The $19.99 version you recently purchased is still worth much more than $19.99 and I see no reason why you cannot use it instead of purchasing a $29.99 version at this time.
Thirdly, if you purchase the Notary book and subscribe to The Notary News (the publication you are reading now), you do not need to purchase another copy (unless you want to do so for purposes of collecting.) I normally announce new topic information on a weekly basis through these newsletters. When I upgrade or write new books, I glean past issues for topic ideas. These topics are carried over and used as new material in my books. However, I do go through and edit or add content to the previous information so the content is unique to the book.
Please understand that the purpose in upgrading my books is not to cause confusion or harm anyone. The purpose is to provide the notary signing agent industry with cutting edge and up-to-the-minute information that will help them do their jobs better. Just because I release an updated version of one of my books this does NOT mean the previous version is worthless. We are not talking about a software program here. We are talking about a book that is filled with excellent information from cover to cover. The old $19.95 Notary book is still an excellent resource tool and if you are happy with it -- don't worry about upgrading. Just wait for the audio to be available online within the next few days.
